The Security Engineer is responsible for:

Management & Leadership

  • Leads team members, providing direction, support, and training to ensure all engineering and design resources are performing work correctly.
  • Oversees a security design team to ensure all assignments are drafted accurately, employing quality control measures.
  • Organizes the engineering and design documentation with other designers, engineers, and consultants.
  • Manages, develops, maintains and supports our CAD & design standards, contributing ideas, lessons learned and updating standards.

General

  • Delivers projects on time, on budget and with consistent professionalism.
  • Interfaces and communicates with internal and external stakeholders including clients, architects, engineers, consultants and designers.
  • Works independently as well as with a team to complete assigned work.
  • Logs time to projects in time management system.
  • Updates and maintains project statuses using project management system.
  • Maintains all client and project data on company servers organized in project folders.
  • Maintains certifications, training, and stays current on industry best practices.
  • Develops cost estimates for the development of sales proposals, scopes of work, change orders, and conceptual planning.
  • Supports other designers to ensure the best techniques and practices are being followed to prepare the design deliverables.

Engineering

  • Participates on client and project conference calls to provide engineering and technical input to stakeholders.
  • Travels to site locations and consults, conducts technical assessments, and gathers site data for development of security designs.
  • Prepares reports and diagrams to communicate the findings of site visits and assessments.
  • Supports consultants, engineers and project managers with identifying and communicating technical requirements in the design documents. This may include various plan views, sections, representations, renderings, modeling, and diagrams.
  • Researches equipment data sheets and specifications for security, safety, fire, voice, and data equipment and network components in order to document and communicate accurate installation requirements.
  • Develops various types of conceptual and detailed design documents using standard engineering formats as well as graphical and presentation level formats.
  • Prepares lists and matrices of technical and operational requirements gathered from site visits and incorporates into design documents
  • Works with various design and construction documents to make informed and accurate engineering decisions.
  • Develops device-wiring diagrams for security and related systems devices in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Responds to project related activities, such as changes or variations in the design, answering requests for information, and generally supporting the design and construction process from start to finish.
  • Uses AutoCAD and Revit to prepare designs of small, medium and enterprise level physical and electronic security, safety, fire, voice, and data systems.
  • Works with complex documentation, drawings and specifications to complete projects.
  • Follows company processes and methodologies when preparing designs.
  • Responsible for the quality output of the design plans.
  • Contributes to TRUSYS marketing efforts, including writing material for blogs, articles or webinars.

Autocad & Revit

  • Coordinates with designers to ensure engineering information is prepared efficiently and correctly.
  • Helps to organize engineering information for use on new projects.
  • Performs basic drafting and design functions when needed, such as:
    • Interpreting design requirements in line with architect’s and owner’s layout styles providing properly scaled layouts, title blocks, and preloaded information from templates, for incorporation by production staff.
    • Understanding 2D line work and annotations to represent the design effectively.
    • Populating Excel tables, databases and linked tables used in designs.
    • Printing of large format PDF, DWF, and other electronic formats, when needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an engineering capacity in the Physical Security and/or Fire & Safety Protection industry.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and Bluebeam are preferred, but not required.
  • Associates degree in a related technical field or a Bachelor’s degree in sciences.
  • Industry certifications such as PSP, CPP, RCDD and ESS, are preferred but not mandatory.

Knowledge skills and abilities

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and Bluebeam are preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio. And Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of security system design and the fundamentals of security operations, fire and safety, and voice and data networks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present and demonstrate work effectively to others and clients.
  • Ability to telecommute and work independently with limited supervision of duties.
  • Ability to work with peers in different time zones, from different cultures, with varying standards and norms.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write professional reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
